Blog

I love sitting down to do my makeup before going out, and that doesn’t change if I’m just going to the gym and running errands.

I like to think I’ve perfected a light look that works for everyday and is brightening and fresh.

Here’s my 10 Products (or less) that stay on for your session!

Tinted Moisturiser

Fundamental for creating a fresh look, a touch of tinted moisturiser evens skin tone and steps up skin’s radiance. As someone that is oily/combination, my go-to is Laura Mercier’s Oil Free version, which is quick to apply, lightweight, and lasts all day.

Concealer

I top-up with concealer to reduce redness, banish blemishes, and disguise dark circles. You could skip this step or opt for tactical placement instead of tinted moisturiser. My favourite is Maybelline’s Fit Me, which offers a creamy formula and light to medium customisable coverage.

Pressed Powder/Setting Spray

Did I mention I’m oily/combination? I always set my base with pressed powder. This tones down shine, blurs pores, and is great for touch-ups on the go. You could also forgo the tinted moisturiser, and pair powder and concealer for an even lighter look. I love Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Flawless Finish Skin-Perfecting Micro-Powder and MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. For extra hold, choose a budge-proof setting spray that amps up the glow – I’m loyal to Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray. It’s non-drying and smells fresh too.

Brow Pencil

Micro brow pencils are my product of choice for precise hair-like strokes, that add depth, definition, and frame my face. I like Benefit’s Precisely My Brow and Hourglass’s Arch Brow Micro Sculpting Pencil. They’re quick to use and create a natural finish (don’t forget to brush through with the spooly!) If you’ve got more brow to work with, you could skip this step and just give them a brush through.

Fibre Brow Gel

Add texture and colour with a tinted fibre brow gel. Charlotte Tilbury’s Legendary Brows magically mimics brow hairs, and creates fullness. It doesn’t leave brow’s crispy either! If you simply want to style your natural brows, set them in place with a clear brow gel instead. You can’t beat Benefit’s 2-Hour Brow Setter, which is true to its name!

One Eyeshadow

Contour your eyes with an effortless one-and-done shade. I love MAC’s Omega (powder and cooler), or Groundwork (cream and warmer), blended out all over the lid and smudged along the lower lash line, for subtle shading that defines.

Eyeliner Pen/Pencil

I don’t go anywhere without my signature everyday cat eye. I keep it simple, tightlining my upper and lower water lines, defining my inner corner, and finishing with baby wing. On my complexion, brown creates a softer look. I like GOSH’s Velvet Touch Eyeliner in Truly Brown and Benefit’s Roller Liner in Brown. Both hold up well all day, with minimal fading on the water line, and none to the flicks.

Waterproof Mascara

Nothing opens up the eye like mascara. I have hooded eyes and almost downturned lashes, so I like to heat an eyelash curler, before applying a couple of coats. Make sure you choose a waterproof formula so it keeps lashes curled, and survives sweaty sessions without smearing. My number one has to be L’Oreal’s Lash Paradise Waterproof.

Cream Blusher

A pop of blusher is brightening and lifting, and is a key component of my final look. Powder blusher works well too, but I love cream products, for an even more natural and glowy finish. I rotate through my cream blushers, but if I had to pick three brands it’d be Milk Makeup’s Lip and Cheek Stick (Perk), Glossier Cloud Paints (Beam and Dusk), and Honest Beauty’s Crème Cheek Blush (Rose Pink).

Tinted Lip Balm or Gloss

Tie your look together and add a touch of tint to your lips with a balm or gloss. My top three are Fenty’s Gloss Bomb (Taffy Tease), the Clarins Instant Lip Perfector (02 Apricot), and Kiehl’s Butterstick (Naturally Nude). I find Fenty’s formula the most long-lasting, but none will withstand your workout if you’re staying hydrated. They’re fuss-free to throw on before and after though!

I switch up my shades to complement my activewear, whether that’s a peachy blusher to co-ordinate with peachy-pink straps on my sports bra, cool tones to match an all-grey set, or warm tones to heat up an all-black outfit.

Don’t forget to double cleanse to remove your makeup soon after you get home to prevent clogged pores, and you’re good to go!
